I’m also not a baby boomer and I didn’t choose to become an entrepreneur…I became a coach which required me to be entrepreneurial…and for all the reasons you listed, I am so happy I did. What it meant was truly believing in and investing in me for once. I agree that it can take a lot to launch and having a solid transition plan, when you have that luxury, is very helpful but at some point, I had to just go for it.

So glad to hear Cindy that you are finding success as a solopreneur. I just knew your persistence would pay off!

I have to say though, while I was a corporate gal for over 30 years, I really do not miss the office politics, managing people that complained or didn’t appreciate their jobs or even the long hours which kept me from my family.

As an online business entrepreneur, over the last year and a half I have connected with so many wonderful business colleagues and other amazing entrepreneurs (like yourself!) that really have helped my business by learning from them and being able to interact with them too.

Self employment is the only option for Baby Boomers who have faced the downs of the last few years. And as for hard work etc – the work ethic still is strong, We both want to see this happen and if every baby boomer was able to open a business and employ one person, the economy in the world would turn around completely

Yes, when I lost my job — or rather — when I began the life I wanted to live by doing the things I love to do, I had to make that choice of working more and harder than at my 9 to 5 stint. However, now that things are picking up a bit as a solopreneur, I’m able to keep a better schedule and take time off when necessary. It’s nice to have an “in” with the boss

Thanks for your comments. You don’t have to be a baby boomer to take your passions and go with them. Like you, I went this route after several job layoffs. While it’s been a struggle, it certainly has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and make a new life for myself.

Thanks for stopping by to comment. I agree with you that it’s not time to retire but to start “afresh” and find something I love to do. While it’s a challenge and not for everyone, it is certainly a nice alternative to focus on our passion. I look forward to learning more about our biz.

It can also get those finances back on track, especially after a long layoff.

Yes, I love meeting new people and social media has allowed me to meet others I would not have met in my local community.

I’m too young to be a baby-boomer, but definately hit middle aged! I’ve taken the self-employed route after being unable to get back into the job market. It was the best thing I have ever done. I regret not doing it sooner!

It’s not for everyone, I think a stubborn streak definately helps!

Like you, I’m in the baby boomer bracket and I see it as a time not to wind down but to start afresh on a new career that I have total control over.

Apart for the need to top up my finances, I decided to become an entrepreneur because I love to learn and try new things.

But the added bonus for me has been making some delightful new friends online and really enjoying what I do!
